Pablo Escobar: “Geniuses are always branded as crazy.”
Yet another excellent Netflix show makes it ways onto Blu-ray and DVD this month and like many of their offerings they hit it out of the park. And in early news the show has been renewed up to at least season 4, so you should really start now!
This second season unlike the first spans a very short amount of time in fact as the first season illustrated the rise of Pablo Escobar, this second season shows the final days of his rule as well as his ultimate defeat. This is one of the main differences in the seasons with the second being a huge step up in quality as well as performance, especially with he portrayal of Escobar by Wagner Moura who shines in this role like few people rarely do.
Its great to see the pressure has been ratcheted up from the first season with cartel as well as Escobar coming under extreme pressure from the U.S. and Colombian authorities, so of course the violence that has been brought to bear by Escobar have increased dramatically. This is something that is commonly ignored in other mediums such as the excellent Ted Demme film “Blow” (2001) and more recently in the Tom Cruise movie “American Made” (2017).
The great thing about this show is that it has been given the time through season one as well as in this season to really show how Escobar was in terms of his violence, his paranoia and how he felt about his friends as well as his enemies.
We are also treated to see the people who are in pursuit of him, in most cases these people are lauded by the people who are producing stories about them. Of course in reality they were pawns of other higher up officials who had their own reasons for pursuing the cartel as well as Escobar, these are more than addressed within this second season.
I recommend this television show highly and in fact it is eminently rewatch able particular as new seasons are released. This is a must watch for fans of great drama.
