Trailer: “Mufasa: The Lion King” (2024)

Disney Pictures has premiered the first trailer for “Mufasa: The Lion King,” the upcoming musical drama hailing from “Moonlight” director Barry Jenkins.

The film is a prequel to 2019’s live-action styled photorealistic animated feature “The Lion King” which itself was a remake of the original Disney animated 1994 film of the same name.

The movie will follow the rise of one of Pride Lands’ greatest kings. The action returns to the savannah where Rafiki tells Kiara – Simba and Nala’s daughter – the story of her grandfather, with Timon and Pumbaa lending their commentary along the way.

It has also been confirmed that “Hamilton” creator Lin-Manuel Miranda will be writing the songs for the new film, joining his work on other Disney films like “Moana,” “Encanto” and the live-action “The Little Mermaid”.

The trailer was released ahead of the film’s release in cinemas on December 20th.
